All in a day’s work: Writing about politics in India

Freelancing is about finding stories. It’s all hustle, pitching stories, getting rejected, pitching someone else.

When I learned Milan Vaishnav was coming to his UPenn stomping grounds to speak about his book, “When Crime Pays: Money and Muscle in Indian Politics (Yale University Press, 2017)” I went to say hello to a friend, but also to see if there was potential for a story. There was, so I reached out to “The Penn Gazette,” the school’s alumni magazine, to see if they were interested in the story.

They were. Read about how lawmakers became lawbreakers.

If that link isn’t working, the story is also here.
