Welcome home, Sarah!

Sarah Murnaghan came home from the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia today, two new lungs in place and working. Sarah has cystic fibrosis and has been gravely ill for the last six months. Her story drew national attention when her parents questioned organ donation guidelines that allowed adolescents 12 and over to be eligible for adult lungs but said those under 12 were ineligible. The family went to court, and a US District judge said Sarah could be placed on the adult list. She was 10 years and 10 months when she received the new lungs in June. Sarah has a long recovery ahead, but her parents and siblings are just thrilled to have her home.
