LGBT Philly

In April, I posted a column I wrote for the Currents section of The Philadelphia Inquirer about a gender neutral bathroom at a suburban school.

Today, I’d like to share an article I wrote for this week’s edition of Philadelphia City Paper. It’s about the death of a transgender woman and how the community responded when initial news reports identified her as a “he”.

Philadelphia and all its got going on for the LGBT crowd. This weekend, I’ll be attending some sessions of a Trans Health Conference sponsored by the Mazzoni Center for an upcoming City Paper cover story. Next week, the Associated Press will be releasing my “table setter” article about the 50th anniversary of a July 4, 1965 protest for gay rights in front of Independence Hall. It was one of the first of its kind, and repeated every July 4 through 1969.
