In the spirit of Thanksgiving…

… I’d like to share two recent articles about local people taking time out of their lives to provide food for others. The first, written for the Associated Press, is about a group called Honey’s Angels. After Helen “Honey” McVey’s death 10 years ago, her family wanted her legacy of kindness and generosity to live on. The first Thanksgiving after her loss, they provided the ingredients for full meals to 17 families. This past Thanksgiving, they fed about did the same for about 200 families while also feeding hundreds breakfast through a local shelter. They also give away grocery store gift cards at Christmas and Easter. Just good people doing good. Here is the McVey family’s story..

The second article, which ran in The Philadelphia Inquirer, was about Malvern Prep teacher Kate Plows and how she’s engaged the entire school in the Empty Bowls program. Her students make ceramic bowls in the school studio, then sell them to raise money. They’ve donated almost $70,000 to the Bethesda Project in the last eight years. The photos are awesome, too. You can read that here.
