Women’s Theater Company celebrates its 30th anniversary

I was surprised to see nj.com hadn’t done any features on Women’s Theater Company so I jumped at the chance to do so.

Here’s the lede:

More than a quarter century ago, Barbara Krajkowski was working with a professional theater company in Montclair. She’d been performing since high school and had a long resume that included roles before an audience and behind the scenes. In other words, this wasn’t her first stage show.

And yet, she recalled, she and the other two women with the company “were being told to clean the bathroom while the men were acting.”

“I was the oldest of the three and I said, ‘I’m going to start my own company,'” Krajkowski said. “So I did — and it’s been so satisfying and a lot of fun.”

The Women’s Theater Company is wrapping its 25th season with “Our Mother’s Brief Affair,” a Richard Greenberg work that premiered off-off-Broadway in 2016. The show, centered on a dying mother with a secret to tell, will have six performances spread over two weekends — May 18 to 20 and May 25 to 27.
