The Daily News and “Where We Worship”

In honor of tomorrow being Throwback Thursday, I thought I’d share a collection of recently published pieces instead of something brand new.

I’ve been contributing to the “Where We Worship” weekly feature in The Daily News for the last few years. We profile different area religious institutions. My next one will appear in print this weekend.

Here are a few of them, in no particular order. I’ve written many more, but they don’t seem to be on the philly.com website anymore. These are only profiles of Christian institutions, but I’ve also written about synagogues, a Ba’hai Faith Center, etc.

First up, a look at Saints Agatha and James Church in West Philadelphia.

You may have heard of Christ Church in Old City, where Ben Franklin and Betsy Ross worshipped. Fun fact: it’s still an operating church!

Take a quick drive to St. Joseph’s University outside the city to visit
The Chapel at St. Joseph.

This is one of the city’s newest churches, Hope Church Philly.

St. Paul’s Baptist Church in West Chester hosts “courageous conversations” on tough topics like the achievement gap between the races.

At Bethlehem Baptist in Lower Gwynedd, the motto is “Love God, Serve People.”

Celebrate Easter with a sunrise mass in Jersey with folks from Asbury United Methodist Church in Cinnaminson, NJ, then enjoy one of their famous “Asbury eggs,” chocolate eggs filled with either peanut butter or coconut cream made by church members as part of an annual fund raiser. They sell more than 50,000 eggs each year.
