The Philadelphia Citizen’s Citizens of the Year honors

I was lucky enough to write about three individuals honored by The Philadelphia Citizen’s inaugural “Citizens of the Year” awards.

First, the Lifetime Achievement award went to two women who need no introduction locally: Sister Mary Scullion and Joan Dawson McConnon are the founders of Project HOME, one of the nation’s most respected and effective non profit organizations serving the unhoused community.

I could go on and on about their incredible work, but it’s easier if you just read the article I’ve linked to above.

The second award went to “Block Captain of the Year” Michelle Belser. Michelle’s the neighbor everyone needs: She doesn’t just care about how her block looks. She cares about how the people who live there are feeling and doing. She works hard at this, and puts out a lot of her own money, and for that, the entire city is thankful.
