A daughter dead from a drug overdose, a grieving father who wants her death to make a difference

Joe Giandonato emailed me a few months ago after I wrote about an unsolved murder and a family’s continued efforts to keep the public and police interested in the case. His daughter’s death, he said, had also received little attention. He wrote me again after I wrote about a gender neutral bathroom at a suburban school. His daughter had come out in high school and the transition was rough.

So we met in late April. He wasn’t sure what story he wanted to be told, but he did know he didn’t want his daughter’s death to go unnoticed.

My column about Joe and his daughter ran in the Sunday Inquirer.
